Performance and Image Drugs

About the course:

Use of Performance and Image Drugs (such as Anabolic Steroids) are a growing issue in society and drug agencies need to upskill rapidly to engage well with people using Performance and Image Drugs. This course can offer an introduction to the subject over a day, or a more detailed exploration over two days.

Duration: 1 or 2 days

The 2 day course can cover a far wider range of substances and can look in more detail at service development and delivery.
The 1 day course is suitable for workers who need increased knowledge and information to deliver brief interventions and needle exchange to people using anabolic steroids.

Appropriate for: All drugs workers, especially those working in needle exchanges, drugs workers and prison health teams

Objectives: By the end of the course, participants will:

explain key terms
describe the endogenous production of testosterone
summarise key trends in PID use
summarise the law in relation to PIDs
explain how Anabolic Steroids are taken and risks of each route
summarise how Anabolic Steroid use impacts on the HPTA
sumamrise reasons for cycling steroids, and drugs involved in Post Cycle Treatment
list general risks, and risk reduction strategies
aromatisation, gynecomastia and prevention strategies
summarise key facts about other PIDs
suggest interventions required by PED users.
