About the course: Workers in a custodial and housing settings highlight that a wider range of Prescription and Pharmacy Medicines are being misused. This course looks at this trend and highlights key compounds being misused including codeine, antihistamines, antipsychotics, anti-depressants and a range of othe compounds that are sought after.

Especially popular course with experienced drugs workers, housing workers and staff in custody settings.

Objectives: By the end of the course workers will be able to:

explain why new compounds may be emerging in response to prohibition elsewhere
list key compounds prone to misuse or diversion
describe key sought effects and risks related to commonly misused compounds
list key facts related to commonly misused compounds
look at harm reduction interventions

Course includes:

legal framework: MoDA, Medicines Legislation
commonly misused products:

opiates, including codeine and tramadol
GABAnergics including diazepam and Pregabalin
Antihistamines and antimuscarinic drugs
Anti-psychotics and anti-depressants

risks, harm reduction and other interventions

Format: Taught sections, small group work, work in pairs, whole group discussion.
