Femoral Injecting (one day module)
Aim of the day: to undertake a detailed exploration of
femoral injecting: looking at the available evidence, process, equipment,
complications, ethics and strategies to address this issue.
Who the course is for: previously-trained Needle Exchange
workers.
Objectives: by the end of the day participants will:
- Be able to list reasons why the femoral vein is widely used and be
able to identify strategies to reduce the extent of femoral injecting
- Understand the structures in the femoral triangle, and how to identify
safer points to inject
- Be able to describe the process for accessing the femoral vein and
reducing risks of injury
- Describe self-care strategies for reducing damage to femoral injecting
sites
- Able to identify key complications of femoral injecting, list symptoms
and identify appropriate course of action
- Able to identify alternatives to femoral injection for existing femoral
injectors
- Understand the ethical and professional issues raised by working with
femoral injectors
- Develop a holistic strategy to address femoral injecting over a six-month
period.
